Announcing the final Mobile Web Server beta release, and future plans
By Jukka Eklund 2008-12-18
The final beta release is now available, along with a new Group Calendar widget and enhanced Facebook application.
With the latest Mobile Web Server 1.5.1 beta release we have been able to implement some cool features and fix many of the existing ones:
- Group Calendar widget. With this easy to use widget you can see your family or friends' device calendars in real time, and make new appointments. The widget also serves as an example on how to utilize the MWS REST APIs to develop new kind of applications. The widget is now available on Nokia Beta Labs.
- Better support for S60 5th Edition and touch devices (such as Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97).
- Numerous "bug fixes" based on extensive testing and feedback from you.
Along with this release we are also announcing that Mobile Web Server Beta has reached technical maturity for current use cases, and there are no new beta releases planned for now. However you can continue using the service as before, since hosting of the mymobilesite.net system will continue for the foreseeable future. As Mobile Web Server concept continues to receive good feedback around the world, the deployment of the service has been expanded to Download! service in selected devices and markets.
Since there are no changes planned for this beta application, now is the time for you to continue the development and tune it to your liking! The next steps and future direction for Mobile Web Server are open - your contribution might make a big difference. If you would like to continue changing the web with Mobile Web Server, keep on using it - and share your comments, wishes or examples in any of the discussion forums, wiki pages and other media (see the Community page for links).
