Nokia Mobile Web Server

Mobile Web Server 1.4 beta released

By Jukka 2008-06-30

Key updates: Remote start and stop, Effortless installation and upgrading, Location sharing features, Support for latest S60 devices

Control the server remotely. The web server can now be started from the mymobilesite.net portal with a one-click link. A running server can be stopped from the mobile site settings page. This means you can start the server whenever you need it, even without physical access to the device (such as when using it as a remote surveillance camera). The mobile site offline page now has a tool for sending a notification email to the site owner.

Effortless installation and upgrade. Mobile Web Server now has its own installer utility, which makes installing and updating the server easy as pie. Instead of two different install packages there is now only one. During upgrade the user data and settings are preserved and restored automatically.

Share your location. The Location feature now has the option to choose from GPS or network-based positioning. Network-based position gives a more rough estimation of the device location, but it is faster and works also indoors and other places where GPS cannot work. To start sharing your live location, try the Facebook application. For developers this means new and exciting possibilities.

Latest S60 devices supported. We have added support for S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 devices such as the Nokia N78. Mobile Web Server will use the Network destination support in S60 3rd Edition, FP2 devices. This feature chooses the optimal network bearer automatically based on user preferences (switch between home WLAN and cellular 3G, for example).

Usability enhancements. A special mobile-optimized theme has been added into the default themes collection. This makes browsing the mobile site with a mobile browser more efficient. The server status message is now shown on top of the mobile site. For settings there is a optional Roaming warning feature. It will notify the user of potentially higher network costs when outside of home network.

The final words. There is no better time to start your personal Internet revolution, just Download and start playing! Then join the conversation at the Mobile Web Server Blog.
